SUMMARY

The telenovela tells the story of a wealthy businessman who finds love with a young employee, a perfect woman in appearance, but who maintains a relationship with an ambitious partner at the same time. Fate decides that the businessman, Pedro José Donoso, will die of a heart attack at the same time that Salvador Cerinza, a poor peasant, dies. This circumstance unchains the plot of the series - Pedro José reincarnates into the handsome body of the peasant and discovers that his previous life had been a sham.

”El Cuerpo Del Deseo” tells the story of Pedro José Donoso, a man with a big fortune who at his 67 years old had achieved everything he ever wanted, including the love of Isabel Arroyo, a young and attractive woman. However, Fate makes Pedro José die suddenly of a heart attack at the same time that a young peasant named Salvador Ceriza passes away. Not able to resign himself to losing it all, Pedro José Donoso returns to Earth through transmigration in the body of the unsuccessful Salvador Cerinza. Thanks to this new opportunity Fate gives him, Pedro José returns to get back everything he lost, without even suspecting about what he is going to discover. The unusual return of Pedro José, turned into a handsome young man, unleash a series of events in which secrets, truths and deceptions will come to light. In this way, Pedro José Donoso will discover that his wife, Isabel Arroyo, was the lover of one of his most reliable employees, Andrés Corona; that the clairvoyant who helped him during his illness, Gaetana Charry, lied to him when she advised him; that his mother-in-law, Nina Arroyo, and her sister, Rebeca Arroyo, are two gold diggers; and that Walter, his butler, hated him deeply.
Thanks to his new condition, Pedro José will reaffirm his trust in Abigail, his faithful housekeeper and her children and in Valeria, the sweet and kind cousin of Isabel. Guilty or innocent, nobody will escape from the disturbing presence of this stranger who comes to get even and save the people who truthfully loved him.

OUR COMMENT

After the success achieved with “Pasión De Gavilanes“, Telemundo wanted to go on exploiting the gold mine of well-built, strapping guys and left Cimarro alone to confront the danger, this time without his ‘brothers’. The success of this telenovela was more moderate because the weight of the story fell on one single couple, and not in three. Cimarro and Lorena Rojas were in charge of giving life to a quite mystic story about the resurrection of an elderly man in the body of a young and good-looking man. This story was the remake of a Colombian telenovela with the same title, stared by Danilo Santos (“Luna, La Heredera”).

Even if Cimarro is still here with all his good looks, though this time with a too-long-hair look, the story is, all the same, one more story, and no matter how much erotism they put into it, it couldn’t manage to captivate the audience.

The character Rojas interprets marries Pedro José Donoso (Andrés García) ,making him believe she loves him, but she doesn’t. He discovers it right before he dies, so instead of dying he reincarnates into the body of a young peasant, Salvador Cerinza (Cimarro), who is not educated but is very attractive. Stories of this kind, in which the dead person, before leaving to Heaven, has to give those who despised him what they deserve, are not new; but if the story is set out in either a ‘comic’ or a ‘tender’ plan, for example, that the dead makes use of the information he already has to win his wife and his loved ones, might work and give the story that desired comic and tender shade. However, the story is focused on the lusty romance between Isabel and Salvador, so that the audience thinks that Isabel is even meaner, since instead of loving Pedro José himself she just loves his new good-looking body. The story, from the start, slips through the producers’ fingers – the characters are too stereotyped and live a love story which isn’t tender or sweet at all but rather it’s worthy of being the love story of two villains. There was the possibility of having worked fine if it would have been set out differently, because even though the reincarnated Pedro José wants to take revenge he supposedly loves Isabel, and that’s not perceivable. Maybe because of this, the end of the story is so original that Salvador Cerinza recovers his original identity and goes back to his wife. A logic ending for quite an absurd story.

The rest of the characters of this story, as in other Telemundo telenovelas, are stereotyped and overacted. Any of the characters is worth it.

I’d have preferred that many of the scenes in which Salvador shows himself as Pedro José would have been interpreted by Andres García – his few interpretations fill the screen at another level. It would have helped the story and we would have thanked for it.

We also regret the part Martin Karpan is given, a quite wasted actor here, who could be doing the role of secondary character or even of hero instead. He has a gooddie’s face, not a baddie’s face.

I think we already said many things about Cimarro; he sells his body and people like him, though his roles aren’t entirely good - maybe he now found a role of brute-hero that fits him quite fine.
Lorena Rojas doesn’t do it bad, though she doesn’t look very comfortable in her role; she’s been seen more loose in other telenovelas. Her character is a kind of an ‘ornament’, a bimbo, and Lorena doesn’t give it the craftiness that such a proud person should have.

THE BEST

To see two classic actors again: The first actor is Andrés García, who was wasted; his role should have been more favored. The other actor is Roberto Möll, who gives a certain spice to a quite nosy butler.

THE WORST

The setting and the wardrobe. Whose idea was it to dress a chauffer with a riding jacket?
Cimarro, in the beach scenes, wears some headscarves and his eyes so made up that he looked like Sadokán. No comments.
