This handsome and attractive Mexican actor performed in many telenovelas, but it was with La Hija Del Mariachi that he captivated the international audience. TodoTV contacted him and presents and exclusive interview in which he talks about his work, about La Hija Del Mariachi and about his new projects.
It’s not strange to see stories about actors who have been working for many years, like in your case, but suddenly there’s always a job which opens more doors, like in this case La Hija Del Mariachi. How do you deal with this fact?
With many years of work, understanding and personal and moral quality. I think that opening doors are completely necessary in life to grow constantly; this telenovela was the first of a big step that has to continue like this, with all my effort in between.
Is this recognition on the part of the audience useful to show that hard work always has a reward? Is it better that it comes soon, late or when the moment comes?
When it comes is the right moment, success is timeless, as long as it comes, and as long as you’re mature enough to deal with it, you’re on the right path. You can’t stop yourself from keeping both feet on the ground because it happens.
Does the fact that recognition for your participation in telenovelas in Venezuela (Mujer Con Pantalones) and in Colombia comes from outside, and not from Mexico, give sense to the phrase ‘Only in his home town and in his own house is a prophet without honor’?
Definitely, I believe that getting out of your safety, customs and confront life has a lot of pros and cons, but adventuring yourself to do it is the important thing.
How did they propose La Hija Del Mariachi to you and what did you think about the project at first sight? Did you think it could have the success it has now?
I was living in Miami and Mexico, coming and going, when my manager suggested that I do the audition. Six months passed until they hired me as the protagonist, and I wished to be, I knew that telenovela was going to be excellent for its story and for the cast and staff I found there.
In the forums which followed the telenovela people described your couple with Carolina Ramirez as one of the couples with more chemistry lately. Can that be achieved with any actress? How did you set out your work together? Were you conscious of that chemistry the audience saw?
The work with Carolina was delicious. She’s devoted to her profession, we just did what we had to do and I think we knew that since the day we did the casting together. We’ve always been connected, always depending on the project; we molded the characters together little by little, until we achieved that chemistry, we dared to do things and it worked. I don’t know whether we were conscious of it, though we were of the love we had for each other as characters, people and professionals.
A complicated aspect in the telenovela was to interpret the rancheras - many of the couple’s arguments were through the music. How did you work that aspect?
It is very complicated to interpret something that one has never done. One must imprint truth in the voice and somebody else’s feelings. I spent hours in front of a sound device listening to rancheras, vocalizing them, managing the lip-synching. Sometimes we would lock ourselves in the set to rehearse together.
What has Mark Tacher contributed to the character, and what has Emiliano contributed to Mark?
More affection, love and respect for my career. I had the chance of getting to know other lifestyles, peculiarities like being a millionaire, losing it all in the blink of an eye and face it. Being more aware about what is teamwork and realize something important for all of us. Everything I can be, I gave it all to Emiliano, like I did with all my characters.
After more than a year of throwing body and soul to the character, is there anything left from it?
No, a sentence from this career is permanent suicide.
Your character enclosed 3 characters in 1. How did you deal with the different shades in each of them?
The situations gave me a lot to say and do; each character I had to interpret had a specific situation and clear objectives. It was easy for me to characterize those differences.
Which thing presented the greatest degree of difficulty at the moment of shooting this telenovela? Where was there the greatest wear or requirement for absolute concentration – the colossal arguments, the lip-synching synchronization or the bed scenes?
The songs were a very complicated thing, and the work they involved was very intense because of the shootings of the serenades, quarrels, etc.. All in all, it was a telenovela which was shot constantly at night so the physical exhaustion was terrible.
Are you conscious about the success the telenovela has had in the Internet? Do you follow the telenovela forums?
In some occasions I had time to see them, but not frequently.
Have you seen the videos the fans do and load in YouTube?
In some occasions, too, hahahaha… but because of the amount of shooting time it was almost impossible…hahaha
Which are your most imminent projects?
A new telenovela for a Colombian production company called Teleset. We’ve been shooting for two months and it’s a very different project from La Hija Del Mariachi. It doesn’t have a name yet, but we start broadcasting it in May.
It’s a project full of action, suspense and a beautiful love story which will surely stick to the audiences’ memory for its very interesting plot.
It was a pleasure to interview Mark and to discover more his actor facet. We hope to see him soon in his new telenovela and we’ll keep you informed about everything. We hope you liked the interview.

I enjoyed LHDM and Mark Tacher was so perfect in his role of Emiliano/Francisco with Carolina Ramirez as Rosario…..I am watching it for the second time and I marvel at all the work that went into singing the songs to perfection that were dubbed…..I could not find one flaw in their ’singing’ to the recorded music…..this novela is the one I have enjoyed the most after watching novelas for the past ten years….. I am happy he find his true love and is now married to her…..when did they have the wedding and where…..Best wishes to Mark and Monica

Mark Thacher is as of now the best actor i’ve seen in NOVELAS. I hate novelas, i can seat through one for more than 10 minutes, but LHDM it’s the mother of all NOVELAS. All because of the dinamics and chemistry of all the actors, it was a roller coaster drama. This is the only Novelai i’ve seen completely and i’m on the 3rd time, and will continue to see twice per year. AWESOME…they should packege it in a DVD series and sell it. It’s worth every penny, i would pay up to $1000 for original material.
